The Altec Lansing brand traces its roots to the beginning of sound in motion pictures. The following timeline trace the formation of the brand and offers a glimpse at its rich history of innovation and excellence.

1927 - Motion picture sound is introduced with the release of the first "talkie," The Jazz Singer. Engineers at Western Electric, who would later go on to form Altec Lansing, developed the technology behind this landmark innovation.

1936 - A group of Western Electric sound engineers start the "All Technical Products Company." The name is later changed to Altec Service Corporation in December 1937.

1941 - Altec Service Corporation buys Lansing Manufacturing Company, headed by James B. Lansing, and forms the Altec Lansing Corporation on May 1, 1941.

1942 - Altec Lansing develops and produces the first permanent magnet in a 15" Duplex speaker - model #604.

1942 - Altec Lansing produces high-power amplifier (Model 87E) and anti-submarine detection equipment for the US Navy.

1945 - Altec Lansing builds first home loudspeakers, amplifiers, and receivers for television.

1947 - Altec Lansing introduces The "Voice of the Theatre" speaker system designed to greatly enhance the quality of motion picture fidelity.

1948 - Altec Lansing introduces the first "high-fidelity" sound equipment specifically designed for home - the Altec High Fidelity Tuner (AM/FM), model #101.

1953 - After competitive tests, the Altec Lansing "Voice of the Theatre" becomes the only motion picture speaker system approved by the Research Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciene3. The "Voice of the Theatre" speaker system becomes the worldwide standard.

1955 - Altec Lansing introduces the first "Voice of the Theater" home loudspeaker, model 820A.

1961 -Altec Lansing introduces first transistorized compressor amplifier and installs teleconferencing system at Disneyland.

1967 - Altec Lansing creates the recording industry`s first modular, solid-state broadcast and recording console - model #9200A.

1973 - Billboard magazine reports that more Altec Lansing monitor loudspeakers are used in recording studios than all other brands combined.

1976 - Altec Lansing Model 19 monitor loudspeaker receives Design and Engineering Excellence Award from EIA.

1982 - Altec Lansing builds almost 4,000 channels of power amplification for Disney`s Epcot Centre.

1986 - Altec Lansing Consumer Products is established in Milford, Pennsylvania to design, engineer and introduce a line of high fidelity loudspeakers for the home and car.

1990 - Altec Lansing introduces the first PC audio speaker system, the ACS200/300.

1995 - Altec Lansing creates the world`s first surround-sound computer speaker system with built-in Dolby Pro-Logic circuitry, the ACS500. The company changes its name to Altec Lansing Technologies, Inc.

1996 - Altec Lansing opens manufacturing facility in Dongguan, China.

2000 - Altec Lansing celebrates a decade of leadership in the PC audio category.

2002 - Altec Lansing introduces a line of speaker systems designed to enhance the television audio from video game consoles and DVD players.
